| MNP Attends LT Train Show |
|
On Saturday, March 28, 2009, Midwest N Pioneer Model Railroad Club attended its first ever model train show. The club has been in existence for many years, but has always had a permanent layout at its previous locations. With the design at our current location, the club decided to have a portion of the layout be portable modules that can be removed from the wall and taken to a show. Now, a portion of the clubs layout can be mobile. For the Lagrange / Lyons Township Model Train Show, the club took 12 total modules to setup at the show. Setup was on Friday, March 27 and the show was to open to the public at 9am on Saturday. The club was able to get the layout setup, leveled, and began testing and running well before the shutdown time for Friday night. On Saturday morning, the club finished testing and cleaning in preparation for the public opening at 9am. The layout was up and running when the first person walked through the door - a great milestone for the club! In attendance for the club at the show was Jim R, Fred K, Jim B, Dick D, Chuck P, Kendall C, Bob O, and our prospective member, Mike K. Thanks goes to those members that helped on Friday night as well - Kendall C, Bob O, Dick D, Ken Z, Jim R, Chuck P, and Fred K. Several members dropped in throughout the day to view the layout. For the club, the show was a great success! While we are not sure if we will get any new members from the show, the general public and other clubs / organizations are now aware that we are still alive and very much kicking. We gave out numerous flyers for our open house. After viewing our modular layout, we hope many of those folks will come back on April 4 and 5 to view our permanent layout. The club is looking forward to the Richards High School show in September, as well as the LT show in 2010. |
